Managing Aggro

Postby Salius on Thu Jan 03, 2008 8:55 pm

The current system of how mobs decide whom to attack is rather odd. As interesting as having a mob automatically know whom best to attack can be, why not setup a means of aggro creation from damage and faction? The idea that some bear is going to run up in front of a mob every time it swings at you is rather insane. The idea that a mob is going to run after the smallest guy in the room while lightning flies from somewhere else and massive physical damage comes from another direction is a bit off beat as well.

If a mob can get hit by someone then it should be able to hit by that same someone--unless paralysis or stunning affects were put into play.

Thoughts?

The stat charisma should determine aggro mobs. If it's high, the less chance of monsters starting combat with us.

By aggro I mean whether or not the normal aggression of the mob will overpower your charisma (causing an attack) and whom the mob targets to deal damage to in combat.

Charisma has a slight input into aggressive tendancy of mobs, but would need a rework for faction; race; and stealth skill (being stealthy should give some advantages).

Whom mobs choose to target currently is based off of defensive bonus of combatants, ot.st bonus of combatant(don't forget that the coloring of your hp and encumbrance have bonus modifiers), and special conditionals (ex. bears, wolves, hawks, and swallows have specials that automatically intercept). This system needs modifiers for how much each combatant has done in damage (the guy doing the most damage should have partiality in attacks), special commands (the guy standing in the back of combat with a tiny cane while doing a little bit of damage, but healing the main guys should get some damage love for keeping the tank up), and current armorments (there is a big guy with an axe and no armor and a little guy with full plate... whom to kill?).

Just a few thoughts. Any ideas?
